Qigong meditation is one of the most ancient forms of meditation that we know. The fact that it has survived until today alone is plenty to confirm its value. Something that hangs around for that long (over 3000 years) is definitely worth a little bit of time learning about it. There are various types of practices and methods you can use to get the whole package of benefits that qigong meditation offers. All of this is presented next.
Two basic styles of practices can be used: concentrative or mindfulness meditation. Concentrative relies on focusing on specific objects; a meaningful word (mantra), the rhythm of your breath, illustrations, or sounds. Mindfulness, on its part, may also use breathing or music as a way to focus the mind, but the focal point of the meditation will be on your awareness. You will want to be aware of everything that is going on; inside as well as surrounding your body and mind. The goal is to accept the life as it is for the duration of the qigong meditation session.
Then, these two practices can be sub-divided in three individual methods: dynamic, static, and contemplative. The first one is the dynamic training. It engages particular movements; it applies to exercises such as Tai-Chi. That dynamic form can be utilized to develop better performances in any sports. It increases coordination, flexibility, balance, helps preventing injuries, and more than anything else, develops better concentration. Qigong meditation also includes the static training which is basically requiring you to hold your body in a particular position, being conscious of your location. It’s the simplest form of mindfulness meditation. The contemplative kind is the basic application of concentrative meditation, but you can also add visualization to it. A session can be composed of more than one type of these trainings.
Qigong meditation is all about developing spiritual growth, self-accomplishment, and focus intensity and command enhancement. Like every meditation techniques, it will lower your stress and anxiety levels. There are three aspects of your life that will be improved referring to scientific studies. You will gain from a better overall physical health; stabilized blood pressure, reduced risk of stroke, boost of energy, increased blood flow to the brain, and an extended lifespan. You will also feel a difference from the point of view of your peace of mind: shifting from stress mode quicker, reduced everyday pains, and increased quality of sleep. The last aspect qigong meditation will touch is your spiritual progress: more balanced emotions; clearer, more calm, and more focused mind; and more open mind to life opportunities.
